Understanding Consecutive Minutes and Gap Minutes
The Consecutive Minutes and Gap Minutes settings control how employees can be scheduled across shifts and positions within a single day.
These settings are advanced configurations and should only be used in specific scenarios.
What Do These Settings Mean?
Consecutive Minutes
The maximum number of consecutive scheduled minutes an employee can work in a day without a gap in their schedule.
Gap Minutes
The minimum amount of unscheduled time required between shifts across all positions. This works in conjunction with Consecutive Minutes.
How These Settings Work Together
- Consecutive Minutes defines how long someone can work continuously
- Gap Minutes enforces how much break time must exist before they can be scheduled again
Together, they control shift spacing and continuous work limits across positions.
Important Warning
These settings can significantly impact scheduling behavior.
If enabled without proper configuration:
- Employees may appear as having scheduling conflicts
- You may be unable to schedule staff, even if they are available
- In many cases, all employees may show as conflicts
Because of this, these settings are not recommended for general use.
When Should You Use This?
These settings are intended for specific operational or compliance use cases, such as:
- Enforcing strict break requirements
- Limiting continuous work across multiple positions
