How to Configure Employees and Managers for Single Sign-On (SSO)

Configure employees and managers to log in to SubItUp using your organization's Single Sign-On (SSO) credentials instead of a standard SubItUp email and password.

Before You Begin

This article is intended for SubItUp managers who are adding employees and managers to an existing SSO configuration.

Important: Your organization's SSO configuration must already be set up, tested, and ready for use before you add users. Only complete these steps after your IT team has confirmed that your SSO configuration is ready.

If you're an IT professional looking to set up or upload a new SSO configuration for the first time, please contact SubItUp Support for assistance.

Access Single Sign-On Settings

  1. From the left navigation menu, select Apps.
  2. Scroll down and select Single Sign On.
  3. Select the Users tab.

You'll see two tabs:

Configuration: This is where your organization's SSO configuration is managed. This area is typically used by your IT team.

Users: This is where managers can configure employees and managers to use SSO.

Add a Single User to SSO

To configure one employee or manager:

  1. From the Users tab, click Add Users in the upper-right corner.
  2. Select Single User.
  3. Select the employee or manager's email address.
  4. Enter their SSO Username.
  5. Select the appropriate Authentication Type.
  6. Click Save.

Don't See the Employee's Email Address?

The email list only displays users who have not already been configured for SSO.

If an employee or manager has already been configured for SSO, their email address will not appear in the list.

What Is the SSO Username?

The SSO Username, also known as the SSO attribute, is the value your organization uses to authenticate the user.

Your IT team will determine which value should be used.

Common examples include:

  • Email address
  • Employee ID
  • NetID
  • Organization-specific username

Make sure you know which SSO attribute your organization uses before adding users.

If more than one Authentication Type appears, check with your IT team to confirm which one should be selected.

Configure Multiple Users at Once

If you need to configure multiple employees or managers for SSO, you can import them using a CSV file.

  1. From the Users tab, click Add Users.
  2. Select Import User List.
  3. Download the provided CSV Template.
  4. Complete the CSV with each user's information.

The CSV contains two columns:

  • Email: The email address associated with the user's SubItUp account.
  • SSO Username: The SSO attribute used by your organization to authenticate that user.

Make sure each SubItUp email address is matched with the correct SSO Username.

  1. Save the completed CSV file.
  2. Upload or drag and drop the file into SubItUp.
  3. Click Import and Validate.

This option is especially helpful when configuring SSO for multiple employees or managers at once.

Employees With Both Manager and Employee Accounts

If someone has both an Employee and Manager account in SubItUp, you only need to configure them for SSO once.

Their SSO configuration will work for both login types.

How Users Log In After SSO Is Configured

Once a user's account has been configured for SSO, they should use the SSO Login option instead of logging in with their standard SubItUp email and password.

To log in:

  1. Go to the SubItUp login page.
  2. Click SSO Login.
  3. Enter the user's full email address associated with their SubItUp account in the Username field.
  4. Select whether you're logging in as an Employee or Manager.
  5. Click Submit.

You'll be redirected to your organization's login page to authenticate using your organization's SSO credentials.

Once authentication is complete, you'll be redirected back into SubItUp.

Important: The Username field on the SubItUp SSO login page requires the user's full SubItUp email address. This may be different from the SSO Username or attribute that was entered when the user's SSO access was configured.
